Funding For Cleaning Up Astoria

City Councilmember Costa Constantinides announced this week that more than $200,000 for Astoria cleaning services has been allocated, reported Queens Chronicle. 

The funding, which comes from the Council member’s discretionary money along with the Council’s NYC Clean Up and Parks Equity initiative, will help expand cleaning routes to 21st Street. 

Constantinides said that “Since we began our Keep Astoria Clean Campaign in 2014, Astoria has been a cleaner and more inviting place to live and work

The Doe Fund, a nonprofit organization will be able to continue cleaning services on Steinway Street, 30th Avenue, Ditmars Boulevard, 23rd Avenue, 31st Street and Newtown Road. Queens Chronicle also stated that in addition to the above, The Doe Fund will aslo start to do sidewalk sweeps and trash-can clearing along Shore Boulevard.

Some of the other projects the money will help:

– $18,000 for The Parks Department for Astoria Park to hire a maintenance staffperson from April to June 2016.

– $5,000 for The Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless in regards to weed and sidewalk landscaping along Hoyt Avenue North.

– $21,000 for Queens Economic Development Corp for graffiti removal

– $37,500 for Central Astoria Local Development Coalition getting for the group’s existing graffiti cleanup.
