If you live in Astoria, you more than likely commute. We’re all used to the woes of the N, Q, and R trains – and the buses that run through the neighborhood.

 

While it seems like service is getting worse and worse – anyone remember that Queens Plaza fiasco? – the MTA has decided that we need yet another fare hike.

 

As of today, the fare has been hiked up to $2.75. While this is only .25 cents up from the previous amount, it still adds up. We can’t help but feeling that we’re paying more and more for service that is lackluster at best, and absolutely horrid at worst.

 

Here’s what the MTA stated on the matter:

 

“Fares and tolls will go up by 4% over the next two years with the increases set to take effect March 22 on MTA New York City Transit buses and subways, MTA Bus, the MTA Staten Island Railway, and MTA Bridges and Tunnels. Fares will increase on MTA Long Island Rail Road and MTA Metro-North Railroad on March 22. The MTA has cut $1.1 billion from its annual spending, with more cuts planned every year to bring annual savings to $1.6 billion by 2018.”

 

So….charging more means spending less?
