The Perfect Mother’s Day for YOUR Mom in Astoria!

All Mom’s are not created equal. Step away from the cliche and make Mother’s Day plans that fit your Mom. We’ve found the perfect plans for every Mama Bear personality! Scroll down for restaurant addresses!

The Boozy Mom: Can drink you under the table, and beats you at poker every single time. Also has the uncanny ability to tell when you’re lying by that little eye twitch you do.

Good drinks need good food. Let’s be real, we’re a little biased to how much we love William Hallet, but there’s two reasons you should take your Mom to Mother’s Day brunch at Hallet: Unlimited mimosas, and a newly updated menu. The team at William Hallet just added in a bunch of new menu items for Spring, and they’ve just opened up their outdoor seating for the warmer weather. Plus, the service here is always great, and we never leave disappointed.

The Authentic Greek Mom: Just booked her vacation to visit your Yiayia and Papoo back home. Insists there’s no need to go out for food, she can cook a meal at home! But secretly loves it. Dinner plans with the Authentic Greek Mom are a family affair…extended family that is. Maybe neighbors, too.

Taverna Kyclades is your best bet for this one: simple and authentic. Greek Mom’s will love the family atmosphere – everyone in the staff treats you like you’re part of one big family. It’s simple and accessible, and the food will satisfy literally anyone, especially hard-to-satisfy Greek Mom’s.

The Cool Mom: Follows you on Instagram AND knows the correct usage of #tbt. Knows all the words to every Ke$ha song that plays on Z100.

We’re tied for two options here: brunch at Flo, or dinner at Cavo. Take your pick. We love Flo for their brunch menu, and how bright and comfortable the restaurant looks during brunch time. It also gets you the Manhattan brunch feel without the prices or pretentiousness, and it’s a fun way to get the classy experience without leaving Astoria. Cavo gives us that same feeling, but we’d pick it for dinner, because their atmosphere works so much better when it’s dimly lit. They’ve also got a Mother’s Day pre-fix menu.

The Hipster Mom: Wait, do these even exist yet? Are Hipster Mom’s a thing?

If they are, then you should take your Hipster Mom to Sugar Freak. The Mac and Cheese is classic, and will bring back nostalgic memories of Mom serving it up after school. The decor here is one of the most unique things about the restaurant, it has an interesting vintage feel, while not feeling outdated, and it’s a great place for a Mom looking for a laid-back Mother’s Day.

The Laid Back Mom: Loves steak and beer, doesn’t scold you for putting your feet on the furniture, would love to just catch a movie at Kaufman Studios for Mother’s Day.

We were going to say Strand Smokehouse, but they’re closed for a while (have you guys heard about that!?), so we’re going to go with Butcher Bar. Butcher Bar is one of our faves because they use great organic, local, all natural meats, and if we’re buying our Mom a special meal, we want it to be as amazing as possible!

The Vegan/Vegetarian Mom: Loves vegetables in all forms, frowns at the idea of GMO’s, will never tell you she wants to go to a vegan friendly restaurant because she doesn’t want to be difficult  – but it’s her special day!

Another tie: Seva Indian Cuisine or The Thirsty Koala. If your mom is into spices and South East Asian cuisine – Seva is her place. They’ve got great vegetarian and vegan curries like the Aloo Gobi Matar, which is cauliflower, peas, potatoes, ginger and cumin, and also have an all you can eat weekend buffet. If you’re going in a larger group and want more options that aren’t neccesarily gluten free, go with The Thirsty Koala! They’ve got a special Mother’s Day menu happening.
