Brooklyn Bagel: Authentic, Amazing, Astoria Bagels

Let’s just get this out of the way: WHY IS IT CALLED BROOKLYN BAGEL AND COFFEE COMPANY. There’s locations in Astoria and Manhattan I don’t understand. We’ll get to the bottom of it and get back to you guys. Moving on.

Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Co. was just named one of the top 10 best bagels in New York City by GQ magazine, and we’ve got to say: you’re damn right. Brooklyn Bagel is a Give Me Astoria favorite, and we’ve all got our bagel. Y’know, the order you can spout out without even thinking.

Brooklyn Bagel has a seriously expansive menu – don’t be fooled by the name. They are so much more than just bagels. They have soups, fish, make-your-own-salad bars, sandwiches, snacks and desserts. Which are all great BUT I REALLY LOVE BAGELS SO LET’S TALK ABOUT THOSE.

They’ve, of course, got the classics: everything bagels, whole wheat, egg, sesame, poppy…the works. But they’ve also got some really unique options like spelt bagels, made from spelt flour for people (like me) who’s stomachs don’t like to cooperate. All their bagels are hand-rolled and kettle-boiled, and come in big and mini sizes. Their bagels are the perfect mix of crunchy and chewy, and absolutely massive if you get the big size. They’re warm and fresh, and you can seriously tell the difference between Brooklyn Bagels and other bagels.

Now, to the spreads. Holy cow. Cream cheese is a given. Of course they have lox. But then things start getting weird…and by weird we mean awesome. On the sweet side they’ve got apple cinnamon and peanut butter and jelly. Like spicy spreads? They’ve got diavalo chipotle and jalapeno asiago. Lactose intolerant? Cinnamon walnut raisin tofu spread. Even low fat options.

Brooklyn Bagel is almost always our first choice for good, fresh bagels. The service is always amazing, with the staff always accommodating our sometimes weird requests.

So, have you guys been to Brooklyn Bagel? What’s your favorite bagel combination? Ours are eggs bagel with vegetable cream cheese, everything bagels with diavalo chipotle, and whole wheat sesame with garlic and herb spread. Yum.

You can visit Brooklyn Bagel and Coffee Company at 35-05 Broadway AstoriaNY 11106, or like them on Facebook!
