New Restaurant Coming to Uncle George’s Space

By Ilija Sekulovski

Uncle George’s closed their doors this past year, to the dismay of many Astorians. The Greek taverna had been a neighborhood staple for decades – since 1978.

After the original Uncle George passed, the restaurant changed hands from the family to Ungs Food Service. Eventually, the reason for the closing was a whopping $55,000 owed in back rent.

The space has been empty for a while – but it looks like construction is finally underway. We snapped this shot of the building plans.

We asked the construction workers what was coming, and they said luxury apartments and a brand new restaurant. We’ll keep you updated on what’s coming!
