Astoria’s only vinyl shop’s coming to Steinway. This weekend, HiFi Records shop/Café opened its doors.

Owner and local resident Javi Velasquez  launched HiFi Records this Saturday at 23-19 Steinway St.

The shop will consist of new and used records, from rock to classic and everything in between.

Along with vinyl, HiFi will also have a café serving coffees and other drinks to shoppers browsing the aisles. Just don’t spill!

The purism of vinyl has always kept its appeal throughout  generations, giving the listeners a way to connect with music and artists that they usually can’t get with modern methods.

It won’t just be about the shopping though. Velasquez plans to host weekly or monthly live mic nights where Astorians can come and listen to some local talent, or support up and coming groups.

HiFi Records looks to educate people about the New York music scene, and with live mic nights, we hope that local musicians get the recognition they deserve.

The grand opening, from 2 – 8pm Saturday featured live performances from indie rock band The Gantry, along with Negative Death, Bria Monet and DJ Jay Kinard.

So whether you wanna grab a coffee and listen to some beats, buy a record player, or add to a collection, HiFi Records will be the place to go in Astoria…
