The Paul Raimonda Playground bounded by 20th Avenue and 47th and 48th Streets finally saw construction begin on a complete upgrade this week.

The $1.56 million dollar upgrade was a long while in the making,  with the design of the upgrade being completed in 2012, according to NYC Parks.

Some of the new features reported by DNAinfo will include :

  • Steinway Piano shaped spray shower for kids (in respect to Steinway & Sons piano factory, a Astoria/NY landmark)
  • New play equipment
  • Re-pavement of the asphalt
  • Planting of new trees and bushes
  • Removing of the bocce court

Construction for the new upgrades is planed to be complete by June next summer. Giving Astorians another fantastic park to frolic in.
