Fake Cop Attempts To Get Cash From Astoria Preschool

A man attempted to solicit money from a preschool in Astoria last month, pretending to be a police officer.

February 28th, at around 11:50AM, the suspect went into New Milestone Pre-School, on 27-18 Hoyt Avenue, according to police. He showed a NYPD identification card before attempting to get money for an unknown charity. He quickly left the school and fled. The man is described as black, between the ages of 40 – 50. Around 180 pounds and wearing a dark colored jacket and pants with a red shirt underneath.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).  The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
