Chop Chop to Chop Chop Grub Shop on Ditmars for some delicious modern and mixed American cuisine perfect for those lunch time getaways.
It’s all in a name, really. Chop Chop fires up their kitchens with flare and passion as Chef Malcom Sanz puts up food focused on scratch cooking, locality and seasonality.
It would seem freshness is in the air and we couldn’t be happier. This small and comfortable eatery was a treat to visit. The hard wood counters, the simple and welcoming interior and the warm hellos from the staff was all we needed against the chill of a New York Winter.
But it isn’t all American. The cuisine in fact is influenced by Argentina, Toronto and Atlanta. This makes for a menu that is filled with tasty sounding items like; Fat Belly Cuban Sandwich with spicy pickles, mozzarella, pork loin and smoked pork belly. Han Cut Noodles with bolognese, pepper corn and mushroom. Argentine Short Rib, with Chimichurry and mushroom and a BBQ selection that is mouthwatering to read let alone eat.
Some of our favorites? Try the St Louis Ribs, and the Smoked Brisket. NO seriously, try them.
The decor is a blend of simplicity and modernity, with colorful hanging lights that drop from a black tiled ceiling. Wooden seating and tables add to the plating of the food which is also served on wooden boards.
Seating is usually filled with the comers and goers of Astoria, and dare I say, the place has a Hipster vibe that doesn’t overflow your hipster tank.
Our verdict – Chop Chop is a delicious addition to Ditmars and we can’t wait to try it again.
