Have You Heard Of Hero?
By Ilija Sekulovski
If you’re a Thai cuisine fan from Astoria there’s no doubt that you’ve either heard or been to Hero, although you might have been there when it was once known as EThree before making the change not too long ago.
Now the Broadway restaurant is under new management – as of this year – and has redone the interior to match.
The new name, Hero Thai-Izakaya, is a nod to the mixture of cuisine that they serve. Most of the menu has stayed the same, however the restaurant is now considered a Thai – Ramen – Izakaya specialist.
And we’re still very big fans!
EThree was already on a fair few Give Me Astoria lists for great Astoria restaurants, and it seems that Hero is looking to top that.
So what’s new at Hero?
Well the interior for starters. The decor is eclectic, eccentric and electrifying. It’s wooden feature runs down in a dragons tail along the domed ceiling, framing the dark grey and black walls as the lights hang off them.
The walls are adorned with images and posters of old Japan and Thai influences and flags, and the dark wooden tables are lit by the golden hued candles in the center.
Overall the decor puts out a calming ambiance that lends itself to the theme of the restaurant.
The service as always is good, and food is served with a smile.
And speaking of food!
What can we say, both EThree and Hero have the same chef and mostly the same cuisine – save for a few dishes – and both EThree and Hero serve dishes to tantalite the senses and fill your hunger.
Spice is their thing, as most people who have eaten there would know, and Hero does Thai spice like no other.
All your favorites are there like Pad Kee Maow and Spicy Basil Rice, along with a selection of Ramen and classic Thai dishes like Peanut Curry and Udon noodle plates.
If you never got to try EThree, then we urge you to give Hero a go. You won’t be disappointed.
