Teen cyclist from Astoria fatally struck in accident

A 14-year old cyclist, identified as Astoria resident Mario Valenzuela, was fatally struck by a truck making a right turn at 11th Street and Borden Avenue in Long Island City.

It is believed that the young cyclist tragically became stuck under the truck’s rear wheels. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the truck remained at the location of the accident, and was not charged immediately following.

Mario Valenzuela is officially the 21st cyclist death in New York City this year.
