Queens Borough President election set for March 24

Mayor Bill de Blasio has officially announced a date for the upcoming special election: on Tuesday, March 24th, voters have the opportunity to decide who will become the next Queens Borough President.

Former Queens Borough President Melinda Katz officially vacated the position on New Year’s Day, when she became the Queens District Attorney. Her deputy, Sharon Lee, is currently acting as Borough President of Queens.

The five candidates who are up for the job are Council Members Costa Constantinides, Jimmy Van Bramer, and Donovan Richards, alongside retired NYPD Sergeant Anthony Miranda, and former Council Member Elizabeth Crowley.

Candidates currently have a little over one week to formally gather 2,000 signatures from voters in order to qualify for the ballot.
