A press conference/rally will be held this Thursday, September 10th, at 10AM in support of Astoria’s small businesses. The event will be held on Newtown & 30th Ave. next to Key Food’s 30th Avenue location.

The rally comes after multiple small businesses throughout the neighborhood have closed due to rising rents and the financial burden of being shut down due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The 30th Avenue Business Association released the following statement: “[Mayor De Blasio & Governor Cuom0], NYC small businesses need your help and solutions or we all lose”.

Thursday’s gathering comes exactly two weeks after a small protest was held to help keep Key Food open to support its dozens of workers. Currently, a Target store is set to move into the 22-15 31st St. location when Key Food closes in October.
