Love is in the Air and the Food… The Most Romantic Meals in Town

By Alexander Lee

Valentine’s Day is upon us, and there’s no better place than Astoria for a night of romance and tasty food. With scores of restaurants and new spots opening practically every day, there’s no shortage of options for local lovebirds looking for a night out (or in). Whether you’re a connoisseur of haute cuisine or a comfort food fan, there’s a spot for you on this list of the neighborhood’s most romantic meals.

With an extensive menu ranging from fresh seafood to charcoal-grilled meats and a truly eclectic wine cellar, Bahari is a great choice for anyone looking to have a romantic night out that doesn’t break the bank. Their enthusiastic service and cozy vibe can’t be beat. Be sure to stay for the complimentary desserts!

Does your date like having options? If so, the world is your oyster at Pye Boat Noodle. This cozy Thai restaurant has an endlessly customizable noodle menu, with four different types of yummy dough strings (rice noodle, wide ribbon noodle, egg noodle and vermicelli) and five flavorful broth choices. With so many combinations at your fingertips, there’s something for everyone here.

I know, I know, there’s already another taverna on this list, but come on – this is Astoria we’re talking about. There’s no better way to express your neighborhood pride than to take your sweetheart on a Valentine’s date to one of the neighborhood’s most beloved Greek restaurants. Just be sure to show up early, because Taverna Kyclades is always popping.

Everybody loves diner food, and Neptune Diner only solidifies that love. With a menu thick enough to be a novel, this beloved spot is the perfect opportunity to give up on being fancy for Valentine’s Day and have your favorite greasy foods delivered. Order soon, because Neptune Diner won’t be around forever; the owners plan to close the spot once development of a new residential building begins nearby.

This family-owned gem is the location of some of the best Thai food in Astoria, and it should be on the shortlist for any couples who enjoy Southeast Asian cuisine. Pochana’s menu is chock-full of scrumptious finger foods that would be perfect for popping into the mouth of your besotted lover: try the Satay, the Curry Puffs or the vegetarian-friendly Jade Dumplings!

If you and your significant other need some spice in your life, consider ordering your Valentine’s Day meal from Seva Indian Cuisine. Everything on Seva’s menu is top notch, but value hunters know to order from the $20, three-course prix fixe menu. The prix fixe isn’t available on Seamless, so make sure you call in for this one!
