How to make Mother’s Day unforgettable this year

Mothers should be celebrated every day for their hard work, dedication and constant love and care, but this year more than ever. The pandemic made the daily challenges mothers face significantly more difficult this past year: from schools being closed/no access to daycare, to lack of support from family and friends, to some even losing their jobs, 2020 wreaked havoc on moms across the world. With that said, it’s only right that we make Mother’s Day just as memorable (the good kind). With a bit of planning and social distancing, an altered version of a Mother’s Day celebration is taking shape, providing a new, but no less fantastic, experience for the family. If you’re in need of COVID-friendly ideas, no worries – we got you covered to make the day special.

Brunch at Sanfords

Sanfords has been a neighborhood staple since it opened in 1974.Their Nutella S’mores Waffles are everything your heart desires along with their talented bartenders. They’re sure to deliver the goods this Mother’s Day, not to mention, it’s a chance to give mom the added bonus of not being on dish duty at the end of the meal!

Sip and Paint

You may have paired wine and cheese before, but have you ever paired wine and art? Well, The Paint Place is the perfect spot for exactly that. Book a private room for ten in advance and let your inner artist (and sommelier) roam free. You have the choice between duplicating the example that is shown to everyone or create something entirely new. It’s a judgement-free zone and allows moms to be creative while indulging in their wine of choice.

Picnic at Astoria Park

If you want to take matters into your own hands, plan a picnic at Astoria Park, but first, some shopping is in order. How about rainbow cookies from Gossip Coffee, freshly baked bread from Parisi Bakery and an assortment of Italian cheeses, cold cuts and chicken meatballs from Sorriso? And of course, don’t forget to bring some homemade mimosas and voila, your picnic is ready to go!

Photoshoot by the Waterfront

Moms love a good photo opp. every other day of the year, so it’s your turn to offer it up. Get the whole family together for family portraits or make it a single photoshoot where mom is the star of the show! We recommend Gantry Plaza State Park for a beautiful, waterfront backdrop.
